Memphis In May International Festival Internship
After 3 weeks, I can finally blog about it! :) I told myself I wouldn’t write about it because if I didn’t get it, it’ll just break my heart. But now I can because I GOT IT! *applause*
Sir F was trying to call me early this morning, around 8:50-ish but I was still asleep so when I woke up at 9-ish and saw 1 missed call from Sir F, my heart started beating so faaaaast. Why? Because Sir F was the Professor with us on our interview so they will contact either him, or us for the results.
So I texted Sir F like ‘Sir bakit po kayo tumatawag?’ and then suddenly my phone was ringing! I seriously just woke up so my Prof said sorry if he woke me up bla bla and was even prolonging giving either a good or bad news. Then he said they chose me out of the 3 pre-chosen students of UP! And of course I was like talking in disbelief and was seriously happy!!! I can’t explain it. :)) He then read me the e-mail they sent and it was long so I didn’t get all of what he’s saying because I was so darn happy! My family was suddenly watching me and they too were so happy! (oops, how many ‘happys’ did I type already? haha)
When I put down my phone I started to cry because, well, I was so happy! HAHA. :)))
Memphis in May International Festival is a really big INTERNATIONAL festival and thinking of being part of it is just sooooo unbelievable. (check out their website!) And representing the Philippines there is more unbelievable! In their 33 years, it’s the first time that they will honor or salute the Philippines, so this is like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. And every year they are choosing one intern from the country they’re saluting and this year.. it’s ME! =)
Our interview was last November 7 at the Sofitel Hotel. My whole family was with me to support me, I love them so much! :) 4 Americans from the MIMIF organization arrived a little late with the DFA people so we shook hands and it was really painful because of my wound. Sir Randy, the Vice President was the one who briefed us and then interviewed Max, Eric and then me one by one. The President was also there sometimes throwing follow-up questions, but it was fine, they were really friendly. After the interview, I even asked them stuffs like, ‘how long have you been in the Philippines?’, ‘where would you go?’ and then they asked me advice about ‘what place they shouldn’t miss.’ I was trying to charm them and I was feeling confident HAHAHA lol.
After the interview I really thought that I have no chance because my interview went really fast compared to others so I wasn’t at all happy with it. And I spent time preparing 2 songs for them because our college Secretary told us they need to see our talents but it was all put to waste. HAHA, they didn’t really care about my singing talent (?). HAHA.
God is really great. Though I doubted that they’ll choose me after the interview, I still believed that it’s made for me.. and so I got what I asked in my prayers. You all have no idea how much I wanted this that thinking about it makes me want to cry. I prayed really hard for this. I even prayed in Edsa Shrine (i didn’t know there’s a church underneath it) with my classmates when we went to the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) at Ortigas and I pleaded them to pray for me. :)
The internship will be for 60-90 days and I will be leaving in March, if all goes well coz’ you know, I still don’t have a US visa so there will be lots to do so it’s not guaranteed yet. But I know DFA will help me because they are involved in this, they were even present at our interview, right? :) And you know the best part? It’s FREE! And it’s a good experience and good for my resume! :) I’m so excitedddddd for this summer!! :”>
